Our first shows!!!

On Sunday, October 2nd we had our grand opening performance of "Alexander Who's Not Not Not Not Not Not Going To Move!" It was wonderful to have an audience for the very first time and it was nice to hear the kids laughing and chanting along and counting to 20 with us. For the record, the kids can count much better than George ever did in rehearsal when he was pretending to be a 7 year old :).

Our first show was not without little bumps in the road however. It came to our attention during the rehearsal proccess that Jordan was a very enthusiastic performer. And when I say enthusiastic, I mean, boy that kid sweats! So during the first show, as we were all giving 110% (as is common with a first run with an audience), Jordan sweat buckets and buckets, causing his microphone tape to come off, leaving his mic dangling for dear life, and ultimately causing his mic to be inoperative. Thank goodness the Mondavi Center has good acoustics, because apparently, he could be heard pretty well regardless. When I reentered later in the show, I was given a hand held mic to pass off to him, which he used for the duration of the performance. He definitely played it off super well...good job, Jordan! :)

Ken came to see my performance on Sunday (thanks, bro!) and it was really nice to have someone I knew in the audience for the opening. In California, of all places! That first show was open to the public, so the kids were a little more subdued, being that the child/parent ratio was pretty equal. The Monday show was a student matinee...which means there were a lot more kids, and a lot less adults per capita! The theater seats 1800, and it wasn't completely full, but there were at least 1000-1200 kids chanting their little hearts out in there. And they were remarkably entranced with the show...I think we may have a winner here.

So above I have included some random pictures from our time in Davis, as well as some pictures from the Mondavi Center's website so you can get an idea of the kind of venues we'll be playing. Not too shabby if you ask me! Today is a lazy day off, and tomorrow we head to San Luis Obispo...
